up Combine Bargaining Units: From time to time, a single employer with two or more bargaining units may join the units together into one larger unit. XPDNC Dues permits joining two bargaining units on the system together without the need of reassigning each member from one unit to the other.

Carve out bargaining units: Sometimes an employer will sell off one of its bargaining units, or render one of its units as a new legal entity unto itself, operating under a new name. In either case, XPDNC Dues permits the carving out of any bargaining unit from one employer to another, or to a new employer.

Monthly Dues Offsets: After dues remittances have been entered from the check-off sheets, XPDNC Dues can calculate for those employees who are still overpaying or underpaying. These employee's records can then be reported to the employer for immediate correction.

Forgiven Dues and Refunded Dues: Over the course of time, some members may have overpaid dues. To settle their account, the local union can send them a refund check. XPDNC Dues permits the identification of all members who have been sent such refunds. Similarly, some members may have underpaid dues. To settle their accounts, the local union can forgive these outstanding dues. XPDNC Dues permits the identification of all members who have had their dues forgiven.

up Multiple Locals: XPDNC Dues provides for the processing of multiple local union accounts. For those unions that gather all their dues in one national account, a single account is all that's required. Other unions collect their dues local, by local, and then remit a per capita tax to the national union. Either case is permissible with XPDNC Dues.

Stewards Book: XPDNC Dues allows for the names, addresses and phone numbers of employer contacts to be recorded. Further, XPDNC Dues allows for the assignment of local union office representatives to bargaining units and employers. This information, taken together with the bargaining unit representation data form the Stewards Book. This report can be generated on a month by month basis, or as required to provide up-to-date information about the office-unit-employer mix.

Retro Awards: Occasionally, labour arbitration cases or contract dispute resolution result in dollar value awards being made to employees of a bargaining unit, employer or employment sector subdivision. Where such awards raise the base rate of those employees, unions demand that a portion of the award be paid as dues. Often employers remit these award retro-dues as a lump sum to the local union. In order to account for these amounts and to ensure that the member's dues records remain balanced, XPDNC Dues provides for these single payment retro-dues to be added to a separate account. Since discrepancies and errors can occur with this remittance type as well, the overall totals of retro awards payments can be tracked to ensure complete payments have been made.

up Personal Remittances: By and large, dues remittance recording depends on two employer components; 1) the dues check-off sheet employer which itemizes each member's dues amount and 2) the remittance check for deposit. Keeping track of the details of these two elements is the primary use of XPDNC Dues.

Persons may make payments for dues to the local union on their own. Initiation fees, outstanding dues or regular dues can be paid by individuals. In any of these cases the two components are present; the payment particulars and the method of payment. XPDNC Dues records the member's payment in the Dues form and permits the storing of these personal remittances in an account separate from the employer check remittance details. In this way, dues overpayment or underpayment amounts from the employer are not mixed in with personal payments.

Future Dues Invoices: Some smaller employers do not have a sophisicated payroll activity or department. Often, many of these employers make on-going remittance errors that may never be rectified. XPDNC Dues calculates expected dues based upon the payrates and assignments of employees within the bargaining units. To assist in more orderly and accurate dues remittance from low-computer-tech employers, XPDNC Dues can generate monthly lists of the bargaining unit members and the dues expected up to the termination of the collective agreement. These ready-made dues remittance check-off sheets can be easily filled in by the employer and returned to the union with the remittance check, thus reducing the errors and late-payments.

up Import and New Certs: New certifcations of bargaining units can be a time consuming process. The ever changing lists of employees, their pay rates, the classifications and the actual composition of the bargaining unit can result in a nightmare for dues remittance consolidation in the first year of the agreement. XPDNC Dues provides for two ways of reducing the record keeping in the case of new-certs. One way available is for the local union to keep all their new-cert info separate and apart from XPDNC Dues until the first remittance check arrives. This new-cert data, stored in some already working application, such as a spreadsheet or database could then be imported into XPDNC Dues.

Another way available is for the information to be stored outside the dues system, but inside the scope of XPDNC Dues. In this way, most of the membership information can be massaged to conform with XPDNC Dues format. Over time, the new bargaining unit data can be updated as new information becomes available. Membership information, such as addresses and phone number are of course on hand for mail-outs or telephone campaigns. When the time comes, the records of the new-cert can be incorporated into the main body of the dues system as a full-fledged bargaining unit.

up Query Tool: XPDNC Dues provides an involved query procedure that permits extraction of dues information that is not automatically available through its menuing system. Finding a listing of "all member's names and addresses who are employed as labourers within a particular employment sector" could be a time consuming task without the data being available on a computer. XPDNC Dues allows for such questions about the data to be posed and answered very quickly. Almost any question that could possibly be asked about monthly dues remittance data can be set-up and answered with XPDNC Dues. Routine queries, in which only the dues month changes, can be stored by the application and later recalled for processing. In this way, consistent query specifications can be run without the need for laying out the query each time.

Standard Address and First Name Fields: XPDNC Dues can standarize address information that can vary over time. Postal authorities regularly issue addressing recommendations. XPDNC Dues can massage the address data automatically. For example, periods are no longer required in the street field. 'Cres., St., Crt.' then reduce to 'Cres, St, Crt'. Conformity in this regard not only moves the mail but provides exact criteria for query searches.

up Year-to-Year Employer Display: Bargaining units come and go. That's a fact of local union business operations. And these units can certify and decertify during any month of the year. Computations and reports about the financial health of the union can be interpreted differently when some a particular employer records are included in or excluded from consideration. XPDNC Dues permits any bargaining unit to be included or excluded from the report process.

Further, since bargaining units can be linked to local union office representation, XPDNC Dues provides an indication of how any particular rep is doing with respect to dues collections. Reports about the expected dues, outstanding dues, outstanding initiation fees can be reported for those units within the scope of these reps, so that they may gauge which units require more attention.

Permanent and Temporary Master Numbers: New members entered on the system can be assigned either a permanent or temporary master number. The next sequential master number is automatically available. Local unions sometimes divide their membership into two type of members. For example, by-laws typically permit members who have paid an initiation fee and signed a membership card to participate fully in all union activities including voting, attending meetings, acting as delegate, and holding office. These members are usually named full or permanent members. Other members are called temporary members. XPDNC Dues allows for renumbering of a member's master number from the temporary pool to the permanent pool when the conditions of membership have been fullfilled. Further, members who have not paid fines, or who otherwise are not members in good standing could have their permanent membership number changed to a temporary membership number. Generating mailing lists for all temporary members to send them a notice requesting that they make efforts to obtain permanent membership status can be made easier when the master numbers are used to identify the two types of membership.
